My background in painting was in oils that I first was introduced to in high school. I then discovered acrylics through a class I took in the late 80’s. I enjoyed it and built my skill and technique that eventually led me and my husband to do a business. I designed and published instructional packets for painting my designs. My husband was my woodworker. He made the surfaces that my designs were painted on.
In 2000 I had my first book published with varying designs for an artist/acrylic painter to do. I also did travel teaching to the chapter groups of the Society of Tole and Decorative Painters that I also was a member of. In 2004 I earned my CDA status ( Certified Decorative Artists).
I was introduced to watercolor almost 2 years ago by a workshop I took with Ramona Art Guild, which I am a member of. My first instruction came from Chuck McPherson. He opened to door to a whole new experience in painting. I have painted in watercolor and acrylics under the weekly session in Ramona where I live, with Stan Goudey.
I am inspired by color. The subject that catches my eye usually is led by color and atmosphere. Is it a sunny day with light and deep shadow or is it overcast with softer light a subdued tones of color. It just depends on my attraction to the overall mood that leads me in a painting.
I don’t ever attack a painting…I allow it to lead me into a restful place that guides my thoughts about what I am about to create. I find painting to be that place of escape from the craziness of the daily routines.
I retired from hairstyling after 40 years in 2005 after my husband passed away. I then got a job in retail at Albertsons 2006. I was in charge of the Floral Dept. for 4 1/2 years and retired from there in 2013. I now am able to do what I love….painting and sharing my creative side.
I am among the many artists that were chosen to display their work for the month of August “Paint the Town”. My Watercolor for this exhibit is “Flamingo Blush”
