The BlogChallenge for August was paint or draw flowers. But in this economy, how does one go about selling their work? Many artists have said this year has been difficult to sell artwork,so what is the answer?
Besides having a show to “show off” your style, what else can be done? Make cards of your work? Do Prints? (I still do not know how to select a piece to create a giclee) and does it come out more inexpensive, the more you make of one item? Do a poster and advertise? Teach a class or two?
If we look at the artists that we love and adore, who paint flowers into their works, like Matisse or Van Gogh’s, would people want to hang these in homes or offices if we were not artists? What makes someone buy a painting? Whether you do a traditional centerpiece of flowers, or a fantasy floral, do these sell faster than other kinds of subjects? Anyone have some ideas on how to be a successful petal pusher in today’s market? These got into the Del Mar fair, so set ’em up and smell (and paint) the dahlias!
